Andelana
On a fateful night in 1899, a ship mysteriously sunk in the Tacoma harbor. Could the rumors of a curse on the ship be true?
Tacoma maritime history meets spine-tingling ghost story! The Andelana, a 4-masted barque, sank in the Tacoma harbor and remains at the bottom of Commencement Bay to this day. There were no survivors except for one apprentice seaman who had sought medical treatment in town for an abscessed tooth.
But rumors swirled amidst this tragedy, talks of ghosts and a curse. Why did the ship, which had sailed around the world, suddenly sink while anchored during a storm? No witnesses saw the vessel sink, but it was said that some on board feared the ship’s travels to other continents brought a curse on the Andelana.
Tacoma playwright Roger Iverson explores this mystery and brings it to life on the Dukesbay stage.
